How Malaysian Ports Can Accelerate Decarbonisation (transition pathway + cross-ecosystem coordination).
Malaysia’s ports have an increasingly important role to play as key enablers of maritime decarbonisation, supporting the transition through infrastructure readiness, alternative fuel adoption and energy optimisation. As the maritime industry accelerates towards a lower carbon future, ports must evolve beyond their traditional role as logistics gateways to become integrated energy and logistics hubs that facilitate the industry’s transition. This session will explore practical transition pathways and the importance of cross ecosystem coordination across ports, shipping lines, energy providers and regulators. The discussion will focus on how stronger collaboration can accelerate implementation, strengthen Malaysia’s port ecosystem and position the country as a competitive and future ready maritime hub within the ASEAN region.

Datuk Capt. K. Subramaniam began his maritime career in the Merchant Marine in 1981 before joining Port Klang Authority in 1994 as a Harbour Pilot. Appointed General Manager in 2016, he has led key initiatives including the implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and Port Klang’s participation in the Mega Ports Initiative.
He is also actively involved in the international maritime arena, having served as President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) and currently serving on regional maritime organisations.
Captain Cheah brings 25 years of maritime industry experience, with deep operational, technical and strategic leadership expertise. Having progressed through marine operations, fleet management and safety leadership roles within Orkim, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2021.
Under his leadership, Orkim Berhad has strengthened operational reliability, safety governance, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement across regional markets, culminating in its Main Market listing in 2025. He also actively contributes to national maritime policy and industry platforms.
Mr. Vijaya Kumar Puspowanam is a seasoned port and logistics professional with over 25 years of experience in the maritime and supply chain industry. He began his career with Westports in 2000 and progressed through various leadership roles, including Head of Container Marketing and General Manager, Marketing & Conventional.
In 2023 he was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director effective 1 February 2025. Mr. Vijaya holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (International Business) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, having completed the Senior Management Development Programme and the General Management Programme.
Mark Hardiman joined PTP as Chief Executive Officer on 2nd January 2024. He brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the shipping and ports industry, having held various leadership positions in eight different countries across three continents, namely South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Belgium, Bahrain, the UAE, Oman, and now Malaysia. Notably, he has more than 10 years of experience serving as CEO in multiple companies.
Mark is well-known for his passion for people, purpose and results, and has a proven track record of success in port management. He has demonstrated strong dedication to safety and has successfully navigated complex situations, including working with governments and engaging at the ministerial level on issues such as concession negotiations.
With his diverse background and an excellent track record in the global port, maritime and logistics sectors, Mark is eager to realise the full potential of PTP as one of the leading regional transshipment hubs in the Straits of Malacca, delivering long-term growth and value to all its stakeholders.
Dr. Siti Noraishah Azizan is the General Manager of Johor Port Authority (LPJ), bringing more than 30 years of experience in the Malaysian port and maritime industry. She began her career with Johor Port Authority before joining Sabah Ports in 2012, where she held senior leadership roles, including General Manager of Corporate Services and Executive Director of SP Marine Services. She returned to Johor Port Authority as General Manager, bringing extensive experience across port governance, operations, logistics and strategic development.
In her current role, she leads the authority in strengthening port governance, facilitating smart port and Industry 4.0 initiatives, and supporting the development of sustainable, competitive and future ready ports that underpin the Johor Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) and Malaysia’s maritime growth agenda. She is also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and holds a Master’s in Shipping & Logistics and a PhD in Transport & Logistics
